Everything golfers ask us before buying a simulator — answered honestly, without the sales pitch.

Getting Started

It comes down to four things: your available space, your budget, what you want to use it for (practice vs. playing courses), and which brand fits those criteria. Our full buying guide walks you through the whole process. Or just reach out to us — tell us your space and budget and we'll give you a direct recommendation.

For a genuinely good simulator — not a toy, but a real system that tracks accurate data and lets you play courses — plan for a complete package as your starting point. SkyTrak is the most accessible entry tier, Uneekor's overhead systems sit in the middle, and Foresight is the premium tier. The exact figures shift with sales and configuration, so the best move is to check current pricing on the model you're considering and budget for the whole setup, not just the launch monitor. Our real cost breakdown walks through everything that goes into an all-in budget.

Not at all. Simulators are used by everyone from complete beginners to scratch golfers. Beginners often find them especially useful because the immediate data feedback accelerates learning — you know exactly what happened on every shot. The software on most systems is also intuitive enough that you don't need to be technically savvy to get up and running.

Many golf retail stores, simulator bars, and indoor golf facilities have systems you can try. We'd actually encourage this — especially for Foresight and Uneekor systems, which have a distinctly different feel than entry-level setups. Search for an indoor golf facility near you that uses the brand you're considering. An hour of play will tell you more than an hour of research.

Space & Setup

The minimum is 9 feet — but that's a tight minimum. A better target is 10 feet for most golfers. The critical measurement isn't your standing height, it's where your club grip ends up at the top of your backswing. Stand in your space with a driver, take a practice swing, and see where the grip is at the top. That's your real ceiling requirement. Our space planning guide covers this in detail.

Usually yes — a standard two-car garage bay (roughly 10'W x 20'L x 9'H) works well for most setups. A single-car bay can work but is tighter on width. The main thing to check is ceiling height, especially if your garage has a center beam or garage door rail that drops the effective clearance. Measure before you shop.

Most complete simulator packages are designed for self-installation and can be assembled in 2–4 hours. Foresight's Sim-in-a-Box is specifically engineered for tool-free setup. Ceiling-mounted systems like the Uneekor Eye XO2 take a bit longer because of the overhead mounting — plan for 3–5 hours for those. If you'd rather have it professionally installed, most major markets have simulator installation services available.

You need a short-throw projector designed for simulator use — a standard home theater projector won't work in most simulator setups because there isn't enough distance from projector to screen. All of the complete packages we recommend include an appropriate projector. If you're buying components separately, look for a projector with a throw ratio under 0.5 and at least 3,000 lumens of brightness.

The Brands

All three are excellent — they're just optimized differently. SkyTrak is the best value — accurate, easy to use, great software, and the most accessible entry price. Uneekor uses a ceiling-mounted design for the most natural swing of any system we recommend. Foresight is the most accurate system on the market — the same technology tour pros trust on the range. The right choice depends on your budget, space, and priorities. If you're unsure, ask us.

It depends on what you're looking for. If data accuracy is your top priority — you want the same level of measurement tour players trust — then yes, Foresight is worth it. The GCQuad in particular delivers a level of ball and club data that SkyTrak simply doesn't match. If you want excellent accuracy with a more accessible price and great software, SkyTrak is genuinely outstanding. Most golfers are very happy with either.

No for all three brands we recommend. Foresight, SkyTrak, and Uneekor all track unmodified golf balls. You can use any standard golf ball. Some older Uneekor models required club stickers, but the current Eye XO2, Eye XR, and Eye Mini do not — they use Uneekor's Dimple Optix technology to read any ball.

SkyTrak gives you access to a large course library including Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black, and Royal Portrush via its membership plans. Foresight includes courses with FSX Play software — no subscription required — and you can add premium courses including Pebble Beach and St Andrews for an additional fee. Uneekor is compatible with GSPro (the most realistic simulation software available), E6 Connect, and Uneekor's own GameDay software which includes Pebble Beach.

Cost & Buying

Yes. When you click through to a product, financing is available at checkout through Affirm, including 0% APR options for qualified buyers. It's a very common way to buy a simulator — these are significant purchases, and the monthly payment on a longer plan is often less than a monthly golf club membership. Exact terms are shown at checkout based on the package and your qualification.

Return windows vary by product — many launch monitors and packages include a 30- or 60-day return window, shown on each product page at checkout. This is exactly why we encourage you to reach out before you buy rather than after. We'd rather spend 15 minutes helping you pick the right simulator than have you receive one that doesn't fit your space or needs. Our recommendation service is completely free.

The launch monitors themselves — Foresight, SkyTrak, Uneekor — are built to last 7–10+ years with normal use. The consumable component is the impact screen, which typically needs replacing every 1–3 years depending on how often you use it and how well you maintain it (always use clean balls). The projector lamps on older models needed replacement periodically, but most modern simulator projectors use LED lamps with 20,000+ hour lifespans.

Yes — complete simulator packages typically include free shipping within the continental United States. Deliveries are often made by freight carrier and arrive on a pallet. Shipping speed and method are shown on each product page at checkout.
